I literally work for a breed specific rescue involving golden retrievers. This person said they wanted a responsibility bred dog and “not one from a shelter”Ĭlearly that was what they wanted instead but it’s bullshit to say purebred and responsibly bred dogs don’t end up in shelters. My only intention is to clear up inaccurate statements. If what all of you are saying was true, there would not be breed specific rescues. You’d be surprised at how many people violate their contracts that state a dog is to be returned to the breeder. I wish you all the best of luck in finding your new Collie puppy! 💙🐾 If something doesn't seem right, trust that feeling!! 💙🐾įrom my experience of looking at breeders for 2 years, I really think you have to follow your gut with them. I'm going to train her to be a therapy dog, so Melanie also knew my emphasis on temperament over looks, despite her show-line lineage. We just got our beautiful sable merle rough baby from them in mid November, and Melanie has continued to answer any questions I've had!! While not cheap, she was also fairly and reasonably priced given her AKC registrations and lineage. I'm not sure of your area, but we (live in Florida) went to Adair Collies in Kentucky (close to Indiana border), and Melanie is an amazing and diligent breeder who does responsible testing of both parents and puppies. Truly, I am not trying to mean any offense to anyone who did get a beautiful Collie baby from them, but it just did not sit well with us. I'm a huge researcher, both personal and professional, and from what I could gather information on, it was saddening that people who do this for a living did not consider the ethical repercussions as important as furthering their "mental vision". Not to try to repeat everything said already, but when we were recently (within the past 1.5 years) starting to look for breeders, the merle to merle scandal did not sit well with us either. I went with another breeder nearby that charges a third of Windlair and breeds for temperament ahead of looks, which I'm happy with. Windlair apparently didn't notice.Īnd lastly, the double-merle breeding, despite their public explanation, just didn't sit right with me.Īll in all, maybe not deal-breakers for some, but for that much money, I decided to keep looking. I feel bad for that family, having ALL of their information sent all over the country to who knows how many people. Third, the puppy application they sent me was pre-filled with someone else's information from 2 years prior. Second, they ask for photos of your home. I don't care for the eye shape and extra-full coat that goes with that. A few things turned me off and caused me to go elsewhere.įirst, they breed dogs to look "AKC showy" - that's not high on my priority list, as I would prefer dogs bred with temperament as a priority.

They are local to me, and I inquired with them when I began looking for a breeder.
